Sabah State Library - eBooks Service (Update)

I did a posting on 11 November 2010 on borrowing eBooks from the Sabah State Library.

It's been almost 2 years since. The newer versions of the Overdrive Media Console (in 2010 it only handle audiobooks) had been updated to handle pdf eBooks.

The Overdrive Media Console on my phone (Android ICS) is version 2.5.0.

When installing the Overdrive Media Console App, you are required to fill in your Adobe ID to allow both Adobe Open and DRM titles (eBooks) to be downloaded and read. If you don't have one, you can apply for one immediately when installing the Overdrive Media Console App.

 

Pressing the "Menu" button allow you to select "Get Books" ...

... allowing you to select "Sabah State Library" (type in "Sabah State Library" when installing the App) ...

... the "Home Page".

Just to show the process; let's select the book "Thai Cooking Made Easy" by clicking "Add to Cart" ...

... then click "Proceed to Checkout" ...

... after the login screen, click "Confirm Checkout" ...

... bringing you to the "Download" page ...

... and the eBook is downloading into the device (it can be your phone / tablet / PC etc...).

Upon completion of the download, the eBook appears in the bookshelf ...

... now you can start reading "Thai Cooking Made Easy".

The "Contents" page ...

... allow you to quickly go to the recipe for Tom Yam Goong!


All in all, the eBook service is even easier now; if only there were more eBooks available (Update - Flora Fung from The Sabah State Library had mentioned in her comment that the library actually had over 5,000 titles with regular additions).

Malaysia Day 16 September 2012 - A Day To Bless Malaysia

A good number of Christians gathered at The Likas Sports Complex for A Day To Bless Malaysia.

By 5pm, the usual parking problem surfaced. This was the road in front of the St Simon Church.

I decided to park in front of the Indah Court apartments ...

... the RELA fellas always help out at these public events ...

... and walk to the Likas Stadium ...

... which was filling up nicely ...

... really ...

... All the good seats were taken!

The stage was in the middle of the field facing those Good Seats! ...

... native dancers ...

... and the choir.

Food and drinks sold at the stalls (the ticket was also the food and drink coupon - see the bottom of the first photo above)

There were other stuff sold (soft toys and shofars).

I didn't realise the selling was so competitive! Perhaps they wanted to finish before 6pm.

I bought some of these fish balls and sausages; pretty tasteless I am sorry to say.

Malaysians do enjoy their eating ...

... hopefully ...

... no over-indulgence. That's a bit mean, I hope its just exhaustion.

Now that we had eaten ...

... some last minute instructions ...

... then wait till its dark ...

... really dark! ...

... and they turned on the lights. Let the event begin with the shofar blowing.

With the number of young people around ...

... it was fast and furious ...

... even the floodlights felt it!

WHO is Gregory 25???

There were declarations and ...

... blessings (maximum zoom on the Lumix FZ35 + Teleconverter) ...

... followed by a mass prayer ...

... to end the event ...

... and the fireworks.

La Salle Kota Kinabalu Alumni Dinner - 15 September 2012

This year the La Salle Alumni Dinner was held on the 3rd Saturday of September instead of the usual 3rd Saturday of August (due to the fasting month for muslims being in August for 2012) ...

... and a change of venue to the covered tennis court at The Sutera Harbour Marina.

It was big enough for the event.

On a cloudy day, it was not very warm ...

... though  there was not a lot of decoration possible ...

... there were a lot of flags as the next day is Malaysia Day.

La Salle events are never alcohol-free; as even Brother Charles mentioned "aramai ti" many times in his speech!

The man in the background is Brother Justin, my form teacher. He retired from La Salle School and I understand he is devoting his retirement to teaching english to the rural people in Indonesia.

Brother Charles (Guest of Honour) was our Principal. He will be 84 in October.

The heavy rain started ...

... and brought the evening to a rather wet end.
