Sabah International Fishing Tournament 2011

The fishing tournament was held from 27 - 29 May (3 nights, 2 days).

It was organised by The Sabah Anglers Association (they did not seem to have a website).

I went to The Sutera Harbour Marina this afternoon to see the weighing of the catch at the end of the tournament.

The weigh-in was done at a tent set up on the boardwalk ...

There was a number of curious spectators. I noted that many of the participants had gone home (probably too tired after 2days and 3 nights out at sea).

The winning catches were hung up to be admired. No tuna this year; only tenggiri, baracuda, groupers, and snappers. Some of the participants mentioned the strong wind and high waves.

The "losers" left on ice in the trays ...

... still sizable fishes ...

... what BIG cheeks you have ...

... so FRESH.

The President of the Anglers Association (Datuk Wilfred Lingham - middle) and our KK Mayor (Datuk Abidin Madingkir - left) turned up to give away the prizes ...

One association official announced the final results. The winning team caught over 34kg.

"The one that got away" story-telling time?

The winning catches were auctioned off to the public, with the proceeds to some local charities.

One "loser" struggling to carry home his catch. He said it weighed 11kg; so not a bad haul at all.

Mitsubishi Dakar Experience in Kota Kinabalu

I had not been to Alamesra before. It is mainly a residential development, opposite the Univesiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and also 1Borneo.

The Alam still looked Mesra ...

... only in Sabah ...

My reason for being here was the Mitsubishi Dakar Rally Experience; and not the pizza!

Nice, but I don't think it went anywhere near Dakar. BTW the Dakar rally for the past few years had been held in South America instead of Africa (too much unrest = too dangerous!!!).

You could take a ride to test out the incline angles; ...

... approach and departure angles. I have had enough of all these, and the mud as well, in those oil palm new developments I visited in the past.

Of course the main event was the ride you could have with Hiroshi Masuoka (Age 51, the 2002 & 2003 winner, with Mitsubishi, of the Dakar Rally).

Here's The Stiq! no lah ... it was only Hiroshi.

You needed to be properly attired for the ride ...

... through the mud ...

... and then even more MUD! as Hiroshi drove the wheels off the Pajero Sport...

... I said the wheels lah, NOT the bumper.

"It wasn't my driving, you piece of #!*%".

This bit of muddy track was no problem for the standard Mitsubishi pickup truck ...

A good event (carnival) for KK.

Chinese Junk v.2 ?

While at the Plaza Tanjung Aru, I saw another shop selling stuff from China. It was across from the guy selling the stuff in the carpark (posted on 16 May 2011).

The place was previously a Korean Supermarket (there's quite a few koreans staying in KK, though obviously not quite enough as the place had "closed shop!").

This business looked "temporary", as they hadn't even remove the signage from the previous business.

A "higher class" of junk as the golden thingy in the glass case was priced at RM23,800!

This buddha was laughing at RM1,380.

Don't we have any nice tree stumps of our own in Sabah?

Old, older, oldest styles of writing characters.

The Jolly Buddha was still a Fat Buddha (complete with man-boobs).

A Tropical Wedding under the coconut trees.

One of my old friends got married and held his wedding solemnisation at the beach area at the Pacific Sutera.

This was the first time I attended an "outdoor" ceremony. It was a good overcast day.

A number of us (all classmates from primary school till Form 5) attended ...

... their church pastor did the needful ...

... while their carriage awaited ...

... the groom got his just reward ...

... followed by the official photograph ...

... then the official speech at the lunch.

ALL THE BEST.

Superyacht Mayan Queen IV at Kota Kinabalu

On the way to my good friend's wedding ceremony at Pacific Sutera this morning, I saw this Superyacht berthed at the Sutera Harbour Marina.

The Superyacht turned out to be 92m length Mayan Queen IV (No. 37 longest yacht in the world according to Wikipedia) ...

... built by Blohm & Voss (launched from Hamburg, Germany in May 2008) ...

... Home port is George Town, Cayman Islands ...

... Owner is Alberto Bailleres (second richest man in Mexico - Chairman of Penoles, a mining company), I guess that's what the "B" on the yacht stood for? ...

It was the biggest yacht entering the marina so far (5 May 2011).

WOW!
