Sabah International Fishing Tournament 2011

The fishing tournament was held from 27 - 29 May (3 nights, 2 days).

It was organised by The Sabah Anglers Association (they did not seem to have a website).

I went to The Sutera Harbour Marina this afternoon to see the weighing of the catch at the end of the tournament.

The weigh-in was done at a tent set up on the boardwalk ...

There was a number of curious spectators. I noted that many of the participants had gone home (probably too tired after 2days and 3 nights out at sea).

The winning catches were hung up to be admired. No tuna this year; only tenggiri, baracuda, groupers, and snappers. Some of the participants mentioned the strong wind and high waves.

The "losers" left on ice in the trays ...

... still sizable fishes ...

... what BIG cheeks you have ...

... so FRESH.

The President of the Anglers Association (Datuk Wilfred Lingham - middle) and our KK Mayor (Datuk Abidin Madingkir - left) turned up to give away the prizes ...

One association official announced the final results. The winning team caught over 34kg.

"The one that got away" story-telling time?

The winning catches were auctioned off to the public, with the proceeds to some local charities.

One "loser" struggling to carry home his catch. He said it weighed 11kg; so not a bad haul at all.
